This car was mentioned in the thread for Mark's Car Guy Garage Sale, but I am giving it its own listing now. 1979 Zephyr, Mercury's boxy version of the Fox Body. This one was being prepared by Mark (Spin_out) for the Challenge but didn't get too far before life intervened. The original straight six engine and transmission were sold off, the interior was stripped out (but the pieces saved) and a little bit of weld repair of rust spots was performed. The plan was to move Mustang 5.0 goodies over to the Zephyr. Finish it up and you will have a rare car that looks like a box but runs like a Mustang 5.0.
See photos at this link: Zephyr Bargain
Do the 5.0 Mustang goodies come with it ready for installation?
No, bring your own wrecked/rusty/flooded/untitled Mustang donor.
In reply to Danny Shields :
It'll make someone a really unique, & cool ride.
I could be wrong, but I think that (and its Fairmont equivalent) is the lightest factory Fox body ever. Really good starting point for a drag car.
I shouldn't have clicked on the ad. I've always wanted a Canadian car and a fox body/Fairmont/Zephyr.
Is there still an empty trailer on its way to Chicago and Detroit? I have a really bad fox mustang that has a lot of good parts to swap over.
In reply to Stampie :
Do it. It's close to you, and here's a suggested build theme: the Led Zephyr
In reply to Indy-Guy :
So let me count my major projects:
Project X
74 BMW 2002
Lil Stampie's Audi
88 K30
Now the minor ones:
$50 Q45
96 Miata
Plus I'm picking up two more major projects next week.
Think you could help me wrench on the weekends to get them all done?

Yes.
The commute is going to be a bitch though, so we'll have to work that out. Didn't team Stampie just pull this off? What, like 2500 miles in 48 hours.
In reply to Indy-Guy :
Yep. If we did it then you can do it, although Team Stampie is undergoing a reorganization.
The other side does not look as good. I pulled off the trim and started welding up the holes. I took care of some small rust holes at the same time. I just put on some paint to keep it from rusting.
The front bumper is tucked. The side impact protection was removed from the driver door for weight. Window still works.
We have done well with a SN-95 Mustang chassis at The Challenge in the past and we figured those parts should bolt in. Though some fender massaging may have been needed for the 315 tires we planned. :)

Care to elaborate?
Is Patrick joining team Stampie?
In reply to spin_out :
I tried talking a friend into it tonight. Think I made some headway but hopefully the evil eye from his SWMBO won't kill it.
In reply to Indy-Guy :
We're losing some members over creative differences.
When is the last time you saw a Zephyr, and when might you ever see another? Someone needs to haul this Zephyr home from Mark's Car Guy Yard Sale this Saturday March 30.
Thought we had a local buyer for the Zephyr, but it is still here. What if we offered an irresistible GRM price of $450? Come and get it!

How is this still available? I thought all things with this chassis were hot? If i wasnt already drowning in projects and lack of time, this would be fun.

It’s worth the road trip to meet mark and danny, the $450 car is a bonus
Aw, thanks Patrick.
We would love to see someone put the Zephyr to good use. Mark searched for a long time before finding this one.
Still available. Bring your trailer and $400.
