"Spyder" was the name of the turbocharged first-gen Corvair Monza, from 1962 thru 1964.
so when they needed a "performance" package for that Vega Monza thing in the 70s, I guess Spyder made sense.

And that performance package basically added HP from stickers. You can see the spider above on the front of the hood.
