Speaking of JC Whitney, it looks like this has an auxiliary fuel tank where the spare tire would normally go. Remember those?

That's a diesel. It will get 55 mpg all day long. It should do 0-60 in about an hour and a half. 😂

Stuff an aba, with trans, and this would be pretty quick.

The only car I've driven that felt dangerously slow. Getting on a modern freeway is a dance with death.

I've said this before, one of mine would actually die if the AC was on and you didn't rev it up at stop lights lol. This car

it only got 48 mpg

This one got 52 mpg every day

You havent experienced deathly slow until you've driven a naturally aspirated diesel Vanagon, the turbo diesels are just slow, the N/A version is genuinely terrifying to merge onto the highway with .

They have the same engine as the rabbit, but weigh so much more, especially the campers, and are shaped like a brick

Back in the mid 90's one of my bands used a Vanagon diesel Westfalia as a tour van. The heaviest Vanagon with the lowest hp motor loaded with amps, guitars, drums and 3 people.

I remember thinking we were definitely gonna die in traffic over the bridges in Portland.

In reply to Foodeater :

I see a diesel Vanagon listed as 0-60 in 41.7 seconds. That is a hard no from me. You would not catch me operating one on public roads, in any part of this country. Yikes. I think once a 0-60 time exceeds the 1/4 mile time it's strictly an off-highway vehicle at that point.

In reply to dculberson :

The reason, at least back in the day, to buy a diesel vanagon is that the mounts, pan, oil pick up, and so on, allowed the installation of a VW 4 banger, including a 16v. That's triple the hp, at least. Not a rocket by any means. But not a snail
