1983 Volkswagen GTI sunroof A/C car
Only changes from stock:
ACN wide ratio transmission (cruises 70 mph at 3k RPM-nice)
Blaupunkt AM/FM Cassette with small amp and 4 speakers (probably done in mid 80's)
Cherry bomb glass pack rear muffler
A/C compressor and condenser removed
Very clean and original
Mostly original paint (drivers side has been painted, a long time ago, and it shows) has plenty of little scratches dings and touch up spots as expected on a 31 year old car; not a show car, but no rust anywhere and very presentable as it sits.
Interior 95%-headliner coming loose in spots, slight fabric wear on interior and shift boot cracked. Crack free dash and very nice dash bezel, firm seats and nice interior panels. No extra speakers, no toggle switches added. Even the trim at base of dash/windshield intact.
Daily driver when weather allows; would drive anywhere
Everything works except A/C, reverse lights (switch-never cared) and windshield washer (bottle fell apart-still have it)-all gauges including clock, interior lights including glove box, hatch and ashtray lights, even the odometer....shows 168k (correct? don't know)
Have build sheet; owner manual and warranty books- spare tire and jack/tools
New tires; oil pan gasket and transmission flange seals-recent water pump, timing belt and full service-needs nothing mechanically but thermal time switch (have to give gas to start cold) no smoke, no leaks, no grinds or clunks.
Have grill emblem coming, and a-pillar covers removed for windshield replacement (scheduled for Tuesday)
Would love to keep it (with this transmission I cruise at 75 mph and get 28-30 mpg, it is a ton of fun to drive) but tax man disagrees....
