Saw this popped up on the Austin craiglist.  I know they're rare and looks like a fun project.  I'd be looking at it if finances and ability to play with a project were more in line right now.

Don't know anything about it, just posting the link for others if they're interested.

Factory reinforced and seam welded unibody IIRC. Not fast by today's standards, but what a great piece of rally history. I'd love to clean it up and take it to RadWood!

I miss mine. They're fun to drive, a really good size and have a surprisingly solid feel. They're getting pretty used up by this point, partly by age, partly by tuners and a big part by rally drivers.

Reading between "needs care and love" and "recommend trailering" I'm going to assume the trans is borked and this guy just figured out parts are unobtanium. Wasn't there also something peculiar about the brake system being integrated into the hubs?

Yup, hubs and rotors are combined somehow. The whole generation was like that, I think it uses the standard front brakes. I forget the details. IIRC you can install uprights from the next generation and get separate hubs and a 4x100 bolt pattern at the same time.

BTW, if anyone needs one - I have a factory workshop manual and 4x4 supplement for the 1990 (next generation) Protege. I can't throw it out.

I have a 323gtx so that might be handy for me.

It's not the GTX that was sold in the US, it's the next generation. BG instead of BF, Protege instead of 323. Unless you have a GTX that was imported later, it probably won't be much help. Let me know.

I had at least two factory manuals for the GTX, those are long gone alas.

Ah, thought you meant you had a GTX manual and also the BG 4x4 supplement.

If you need storage room for them, I can likely take those old gravel tires out of your way.

You'll need to log in to post.
