Price reduced! The first one with $5,900 can take it home!
The car is in York, Pennsylvania. I have the clear title in-hand. Help me free up the garage. Let's work out a good deal!
I bought this race car in 2015 thinking I was going to do quite a bit of wheel-to-wheel racing with the SCCA. After I bought it, outfitted an awesome retired-bread-truck for carrying it, and then got my provisional license at the 2015 WDCR race school, I started to see what a logistical nightmare I had in front of me. The car was stored in a garage one hour from my house, the truck was in yet another location, and I worked on it in a shop in a different state. So. I didn't get nearly the seat time I wanted in it and now my wife and I want to buy another house.
(Don't worry... I still like motorsports, but I think I'm going to do some more FATT instruction at Summit Point Raceway and stick to the street-going cars for now... at least until I get a house with a nice garage where all the assets can be co-located).
The car:
She's a looker. It's the cleanest Miata I've owned to date. White paint, green roof. I just installed the decals this Spring, so they're the current SCCA ones and they are legal. The chassis has 165,000 miles on it.
The previous owner installed an engine from a salvaged car, but it runs strong and doesn't tick. (Seriously... no tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick... on a MIATA!) I don't know the mileage of the engine.
The cage is a little wonky as it has a few too many attachment points. The reason is that there was one door bar that ran into the door area, and the cage builder didn't like that, so he added a second door bar. The problem was that he couldn't add trusses between the two door bars because they are a little close to each other. So he ran vertical bars from one door bar to the door sill. Nobody seems to care about this--it keeps passing inspections, so I'm happy with it. If anybody had a problem with it, I would have just cut out the vertical bars and left it that way. (There is literally no way this adds any structural benefit or performance enhancement--he just did it for extra safety.)
The windshield has a crack near the top, but it passed inspection last year and didn't cause any concern this year. It's not obtrusive.
I just changed the oil, replaced the front suspension camber and caster bolts with the improved Mazda ones, installed a fuel test port, and gave her a good once-over. I also polished it up before I put the decals on, so she shines bright! She might need an alignment, especially because I replaced the stock steering wheel with a smaller one. You know how those things never line up the same way... Also, the rockers (in front of the rear tires) are rust free!
Oh, and during tech inspection this season (last month), they told me it needed a new fire extinguisher. So it didn't pass, but that was the only reason cited. I didn't have another one with me, so I left it at that.
Other than that, it's a good car! I'm really happy that I bought it and got some experience with it. In fact, when I ran my race school, we did a mock race and I moved from ninth, where they thought it would be most amusing to start me, to first place and ended up winning it. (I use every inch of that run-off at turn 10 on Summit Point Raceway... not everybody else did that!)
Oh, the extra stuff... I'll include spare parts including subframe components, differential housings (I think I have two), a steering rack or two, wheel hubs, a passenger door (it's yellow), and a second Sparco seat if you want. I'll give you two sets of 15 x 7 wheels, six fresh take-offs, and whatever rubber I've got on it to roll it around. I've literally filled a garage bay with this car and all the extra stuff I have for it.
