I thought I could get this into the shop and fixed up quickly but that didn't happen and I don't need anymore automotive stress.
I grabbed this 2000 528 wagon a few weeks ago because the previous owner couldn't diag an "overheating" problem. He had the waterpump, thermostat and I believe fan clutch replaced but still had sporadic issues. I towed it home, bleed the system properly (added almost a gallon) and it hasn't gone past the halfway mark since. That being said, the aux coolant pump that normally makes bleeding these a breeze isn't functioning. I'm guessing that's the source of the issue. I had to jack the front of the car a good 3 feet in the air to burp it. Also, I think the heater control valve may be toast. It gets warm on the passenger side of the dash but not the driver. The rear windows do not roll down. I hear the motors attempt to move but do not. I presume regulators or they are gummed up. The sunroof drains were clogged with pine needles (the whole car was covered in them) so the interior was wet. I cleaned out the drains and have been letting it dry off in the garage since I got it. It has ebay headlights. While in nice condition they do not appeal to me. It's an autotragic. I believe with a bit of effort this would be a very nice driver but with the recent joining of a race team I don't have time for that effort. IIRC, it has 172k on it and the vanos makes no noise whatsoever. It has some broken trim around the hatch, the driver's seat is torn and I think it was the apillar trim pulling back.
$1k
Tacoma Washington is a haul....Love BMW wagons, especially the 5 series. You should have no problems selling it along. GLWS

Man, I'd love to be able to be interested in that.
Paging Cousin Eddie, he's already got a plane ticket to Washington and looking for a drive it home project.
Dang I want this!
Since it is a NW car, is it rusty? Will it make it back to MI?

Compared to an MI car this thing is absolutely spotless. It has the normal surface rust from being 20 years old but I'd wager that you wouldn't break a single bolt on the undercarriage of this thing. No holes, no peeling paint.
I honestly don't know if it would make a roadtrip. I've only had it a few weeks and haven't even really inspected it hardcore. I commute from Tacoma to Seattle everyday (60ish miles) for work and I've taken this a handful of times without issue.

I'll have to sit on this a week until after my finals are over to see if I want to risk a fly-n-drive. I'm sure this will be gone by then
Holy crap. I want this. I somewhat recently sold my rebuilt E39 540 to a friend. I wanted a wagon. I'm just about to buy a forester that needs a bunch of work that will go quite a bit over this initial purchase price. And I work primarily on euro cars so it I'm used to the quirks. I need to Google travel time and flights.

No offense, but I hope so!
I found a flight for $160. I'm waiting for friends and family to talk me out of it.
Do you have a shop or garage or driveway that I could use to replace the aux water pump?

In reply to ian sane :
Damn. No worries. It was a super good deal. I had a little hesitation about driving it 1500 miles without a proper shakedown. I'm sure the new owner will love it.
