I was pretty keen on looking into this untitled MR2 until I realized that Vermont changed our title laws for 2024. Previously, since this is older than 15 years a simple bill of sale would be enough to register and title in my name no problem. There are some loopholes now if a title is not on hand, but I reached out to the seller and it's not even registered in his name. Yeah, I'm not psyched on getting caught up in a documentation web with the state and the last two owners of this vehicle.
Anyways, given the difficulty of registering in Vermont now, I think the seller is probably more amenable to offers. Hoping someone here can pick it up for challenge money and build a track car or hillclimb car!
Edit: I realize I accidentally titled this $2,000, but it's listed for $2,500. I'm optimistic you can get them down to $2,000!
Great price, his pictures are terrible.
So how hard is it to just keep a title with a car. Seriously people, even if it is not required. The oldest car I sold was a 1938 and I had the title for it.
It's listed for 2k now!
It's amazing how many relatively new cars are sold title-less. Even more incredible how many sport bikes somehow lose their titles after 10 years.
These cars are notorious for cat ingestion. Are there telltale signs of impending doom? The Spyder is growing on me as I come to accept that I'll probably never have another nice AW11 again.
I'll never understand how titles disappear. I've been in touch with the seller a bit and he claims the owner prior to him does have the title (a tenuous claim, I know). I'm thinking of trying to haggle him down a bit more - if I can pick it up for $1,500 or less I might be willing to risk that and just part it out if I can't register it.
Regarding the cat ingestion, that's certainly a concern of mine, but if ~$1,500 I'll happily check it and gut them if not done already. If the engine is on the way out already then it's just a sign that a 2zz swap is the right choice!

It seems like it would be a good bet at $1500. Maybe you get the title and it becomes an $8K car (assuming it's in decent shape). If the title doesn't appear, you could part it out as mentioned or use it as a dedicated track/autocross/rally-x car!
