And, just like they were when I was looking at them in 2006 or so - crack pipe asking price. You can easily get a nice E46 330i, possibly even a ZHP given that kind of mileage, for the same money.
Yeah, I like Lexus and I like the 2jz but I think a 330i would tough to beat. You can get a really nice 330i for well under that price. Fuel economy is better too.
That's not crack pipe asking price. That is the price of a reliable, straight six, sedan with nice luxuries.
As someone who went from an IS300 to a 328I, the Lexus is a superior car in so many aspects. Faster, more nimble, better brakes, and it will give you trouble free miles. The only thing that my 328i does better than the Lexus is MPG.
When I was cross-shopping E46s and IS300s in 2006 or so, dollar for dollar I could get nice 325is with half the mileage as same-year IS300s. All day long. For what I paid for my 23k-mile 2003 325i with Sport and Cold packages, I couldn't touch a 2003 IS300 with under 90k on the clock. That's an awful lot of extra wear and tear for the sake of a few extra horsepower.
Right now, down the street from work, there's a beautiful dark blue 2006 330i for sale, about 110k on it, asking $7800. To me, you have to really want that Lexus to pass up a much newer Bimmer for less money.
Wow those go for a lot of dough. I have had a G35 (6MT) and now have a 328i so it would be interesting to drive one for comparison.
Kinda strong $ for the mileage. Mine's been a peach tough, super cheap to run, most (maybe all) 5spds are sport pkg with lsd. If you are shopping these, consider a gte swapped one for a little more $, they can be had for the teens and boosted IS3s just rock.
This AM, I saw an LS1 swapped IS300. Pretty sweet sounding just like a vette. Traction was a bit tough with the cold asphalt.
Still, the 330 is tough to beat. Especially with an AA Supercharger.
Lots of want there, but my experiences with lexus interiors makes me run like a cat with a string of fire crackers tied to it's tail.

My experience has been generally positive. I don't know about the IS interiors, but the LS is super long lived and sturdy, and the GS is pretty dang good. 236k miles with no holes in the leather and the whole interior looks quite nice. Some minor rattles though.
