With great sadness, I've come to the realization that I won't be able to get this back on the road.  Pic before it was relegated to garage queen:

Its been in the family since 2006/40k.  Currently has about 195k. Located in Medina, OH, and I do have clean OH titles in my name.

The balance chain failed, causing the oil light to intermittently flicker on the 1/2 mile ride home.  I pulled the oil pan and believe the light was caused by a piece of chain partially dislodging the oil pipe inside the pan.  I think one would be safe in dropping the engine, installing the new chain sets, and motoring on down the road.  However, I do have a contingency plan...

Body is in very good condition under the barn find dust. The doglegs have previously been repaired, I think the left side has a bubble starting again.  Gray leather interior with sport seats also in great shape, and the windows are tinted 50%front/20% rear.  I dropped the subframe 20k before this happened, so it has new subframe bushings, control arms, and balljoints, new motor mounts apart from the trans mount, which I have sitting in a box.

I started disassembling things to drop the engine, but due to life, didnt get very far.  Now I'm at a point where back issues are limiting what I can do.

In addition to the car, I have a new timing set and balance chain set, full set of gaskets, as well as a complete disassembled short block, two heads (one torn down), so one could either mess with the original engine, or build up a new one.

Other parts and stuff:

-Set of 16 Blizzak 90s with decent tread left

-Set of 17" klingon wheels in need of repainting

-Chinese clone Tech2

-a couple sets of driveshafts to reboot

-extra non-aero nose, extra set of headlights.

-Spare DI cassette, plugs, filters, ATF

-Other random stuff in the basement or garage that I can't remember offhand

In addition, my '01 Aero sedan will make a decent parts car and/or 5spd conversion donor.  Its sitting at 251k, has been driving 150mi/week until last week.  It has enough rust and other random issues i wouldnt recommend driving it much.  It seems to have developed adjustable toe in the left rear, but I couldn't identify anything loose. Other issues: rust, cracked windshield, oil & coolant leaks, left marker light held on with packing tape, no e-brake.  It does have a new battery, new good DI, 17" wheels with cheap ebay tires that have about 15k on them, a decent set of sport seats from an '03, and a Boss android auto/car play stereo with steering wheel controls.

My plan would be to pull wheels, battery, DI, stereo and anything else usable off the sedan and drop them on the wagon.

I was thinking 1200 for the wagon, Tech2, and spares, 500 to throw in the sedan as well, but my overriding concern is to see it get back on the road, so if interested, shoot me an offer.  I'm having issues getting more pics to load off my phone  on the forum software,  but can send more via email.

Sounds tempting, for my next kid project.  She doesn't start drivers training until the spring.  And she has her heart set on a jeep.  But only four and a half hours away.  I'll just keep an eye on this one.

Although, he's kinda already done this.

I'm tempted by the parts sedan but that possible use of the engine is a long way off.

@Stampie, I remembered you wanted the engine when the body was good and dead...

Robbie, its waiting for you to ressurect it into dad-bod glory.  You have extra parts in case you over boost it...

Maybe if the buyer doesn't want the sedan I'll grab it.  I do want to do evil things to that engine.  Plus it'd give me another excuse to come up to Ohio.

I think you'd be better off starting with the slightly earlier motor for evil amounts of boost right?

No direct experience but I thought t5 has better forged internals and stuff over t7. The t7 might be a better head though.

The thing to get is a motor out of a 9000 Aero, though the big difference between the later engine is the lack of forged pistons I believe.

Most of my evilness is converting to RWD.  More boost is always nice of course.

Bumping for the weekend crowd.

Nobody is interested in Aristocrat class glory?

Really wish you were closer. I have an '04 Arc wagon, so I understand aristocrat-class glory. And I have a Saab hoarding problem.

Hope you can find someone to buy the whole package and resurrect the car, but if not, and you're willing to ship stuff, I'd be interested in the Tech 2, probably the timing chain set (assuming it's the full OE kit with new guides), and some other stuff (e.g., the '04 ABS module if you're willing to pull it).

Ok... I'm not a Saab-ite so someone tell me what we're looking at here. These are turbo 4 cylinder?

Does the wagon have a sunroof?

Looks like excellent dad-mobile potential.

In reply to BlueInGreen - Jon :

Yes 4 cylinder turbos.  They are great.  My only complaint about them is the flywheel is heavy so they're not revers.  But damn do they pull.

Well hmm. I'm not officially looking for a project but the Mazda 6 will need replacing soon. The local cheap car market is pretty sad, so a "some assembly required" deal like this might make sense.

Hi Jon, I haven't been on forum so much lately...

Yes 4 cyl turbo as Stampie says, the wagon is 260hp with a 5spd auto that actually works very well.  No, it is not rev happy, but it doesn't need to; I think it gets like 90% of max torque at 2000rpm or so.

It does have a sunroof, and yes I think you could roll your own with minimal additional money outlay for parts.

That might ruin the headroom for my tall self then :(

Unless the seat bottom adjusts way down close to the floor for a lower driving position than most cars.

250+ torquey turbo horses sounds like fun though.

I don't have a problem as I'm only 5'8", but @Stampie 's quite a bit taller than me, and previously owned one.

I dont know if they even made a 9-5 without sunroof, at least for the US.

Anyway, we will be taking a trip to the NW Ohio area, I think the weekend before thanksgiving. If you haven't sold it yet and are around then, I could try to extend the trip to check it out in person. If that might work I'll be touch

That would be fine, I'm pretty much always home on weekends.  I'm kind of slowly gathering parts into boxes now as I get time.
