I’m the 2nd owner - I bought it in May 2018 in an estate sale, at ~249k miles. It was kinda rough. I have a ton of photos and will post anything not shown in the thread linked below, on request.
Haynes manual will be included with truck.
What’s good.......
Body and chassis: No rust ever (Georgia truck since new)
Engine: new Aisin timing belt, water pump, t-stat, accessory belt, belt tensioner, new radiator and hoses, air filter & engine oil, differential oil, transmission oil at 249k (summer 2018 - have Blackstone report for the prior engine oil)
Front suspension rebuilt: new Toyota lower control arms, Toyota lower ball joints, Toyota upper ball joints, Moog upper control arms, Moog front strut/springs (fall 2018)
aligned after front end work. Tracks straight
new iridium spark plugs, valve cover gaskets and battery hold-down (1/2019)
New Moog front sway bar bushings and NAPA sealed away bar end links (2/2019)
new ceramic front brake pads (2/2019)
new idler pulley (2/2019)
newly cleaned throttle body and MAF sensor
replaced PCV valve (3/2019)
new Weathertech front floor mats
new Toyota front bumper cover
have Carfax from May 2018
good tire tread depth all around
no rips in leather
That badass Toyota power rear window
Final year of the first generation
good solid truck
note: all listed work was performed in last 3k miles. 95% of the work done in my garage by a buddy who is a mechanic. (I helped but mostly watched and learned). Fluids changed at the shop where buddy works. Alignment by a tire shop.
.........and the warts:
DS front door window switch panel is a little loose. It sits down and looks fine but it’ll lift up when you pull on switches if you don’t know to be mindful.
Passenger side power mirror and one foglight inop. On my list to check out but haven’t.
Interior center console lid latch spring broken. It still latches but you have to manually turn the lever to help it.
Tailgate has small dent, tailgate lock ornery.
Back bumper is a little bent (when I bought the truck, it had very light right rear and left front corner damage. Carfax said no airbag deployment which is consistent with the damage I saw. I had the body panels repaired at a body shop. I have many before/after photos, I think some are in the linked post).
The supplemental air injection system is a common problem for this engine. Has a Hewitt Tech SAIS bypass kit that was installed by original owner. Device works as intended but an under hood inspection in the wrong state could be bad news. (Hewitt device is designed to silence the CEL for SAIS failure)
Summary: not perfect but running and looking pretty good. Numerous common and expensive 1st gen Tundra needs have been addressed.
