That looks amazingly clean.  Just needs a manual swap and a parts bin stroker built to be a beast.

I believe the 1st year was 88. They also came as coupes.

The seller seems to have a bit of a BMW problem.

Before spending any money on it, I'd check the parts availability for the problematic transfer case. That wasn't great when I had one a decade ago, and I doubt it got better since. 
And then you get to marvel at the driveshaft that runs through the oil pan IIRC.

That's nothin'. A classic Mini has the whole transmission in the oil pan :)

That is true, but at least they made millions of Minis that way, vs. a few thousand AWD E30s.

This looks like a reasonable price for a project, although it's a bummer it doesn't have the original 15" wheels.

At a rallycross a ways back (2021?) I was speaking with someone who modified the center coupler to be rebuildable/tunable.

Still think these are neat.
