The 944 guys are certainly there. I've seen real POS non running cars with 4k asking prices. I hate to tell the potential buyers that you can spend 5k getting a 944 to run again. If you do it right. They really aren't any cheaper than a 911, at times actually more. And, to make them track ready...$$$

I love everything about it except the hole in the hood.

Zero reason to have to cut a hole in the hood.  I did have to cut the under hood bracing on my old car but that was it.  Someone makes a cowl induction hood for the 944 that looks nice, I'd have gotten one of those before I cut a hole in my hood.
