I saw one back in 99(?) for sale in a small town on my paper delivery route in Michigan....

Only good thing is it would have been smog exempt....

There was one for sale here in MD not too long ago. It was very tempting. BMW diesel, pretty reliable, and offered (in the BMW anyway) with a ZF 5 speed so a manual swap wouldn't be too hard. IIRC that's a Fox platform car.

Looks pretty good for a Utah car. I grew up in the snow belt near Chicago and Utah's generous use of salt puts Chicago to shame. There are piles of the stuff on every highway and every parking lot. They put salt on dry pavement.

In Europe at least. 524TDs were all auto on these shores. Any M20 bolt pattern G260 will bolt right up though. Flywheel as well.
