Very much a 'leftovers' swap...  remove dead engine... install engine I have laying around... 

Yes, I can think of hundreds of better engine donors for this car other than a Vega!

Google puts the single barrel version at 90 crank hp... Assume 15% drivetrain loss and another 15-20% because it's old... MAYBE  65hp to the wheels... and the E39 isnt a particularly svelte sedan either.  This thing would be dangerously slow.
