Wow, only 60k miles on a 12 year old car. Not driven much.
I'm inclined to say its something else keeping the car from starting. Could be a bargain for someone willing to learn. (not me)
I just sold one of those to a friend, 235k and still going.
He learned that the AC cools the battery, if the AC goes so does the battery. The question is once the AC is repaired does the battery come back?
The only problem he had is with some silly connector that went bad.
Kbb gives this a $6-9k private party retail. At a $1750 purchase, even dropping $2k to fix it (which I don't think it would need) still makes this very profitable.
I bet its only a few cells that are bad. Ebay a few good ones and drive it until the next ones go, if they will. I did this with a $1400 Prius and got 25k miles out of it before selling it.
