That's a car that you buy to say that you owned one but sell it after a week if it's still running.

It is not that they are awful when they run, it is the frequency of failing to run that spoils the party.

Can You stuff an LS in there? Would you want to?

Are the problems confined to specific systems, such as electrical, mechanical, cooling, tune, or just overall too complex German overengineering?

I am betting CAN bus party time 24/7 is at the center of many, but far from all, of the challenges of owning one of these.

This is one of those cars where I would only want to own it if I had been through dealer tech training school and had the full suite of diagnostic tools available to me.  And I imagine parts pricing would still kill any fun of ownership.

My assumption. 

It looks like it would make for a fun test drive, at least. 

Mercedes has a department that oversees all engineering designs to make sure they are as complicated as possible.  Then another department that doubles the previous complications.  

Again, a mild small twin turbo 4.8 with a built 4L80e, Terminator X, digital dash and creative controlling of the HVAC and you got a great 500hp driver.
