Maybe a reflection but it looks like the driver side bed above the rear wheel has rust-through. My in-laws had a quad cab of this truck for many years, with the 4.7 V8, which was a nice motor with a good sound to it. No clue how this one's V6 fares, but apparently you could get a 4 cylinder version? Wild.
These trucks sold great in our area in Michigan and you never see them anymore, likely because they all rusted out just like my in-laws' truck did.
If anyone else is curious, these are about 16 inches longer than the new Maverick, 15 inches shorter than the F-150.
