What else do you think would help me sell it?
I have only bought one car in the last 10 years, that was not a friends and family deal, in known excellent condition. And that Toyota has been a mistake.
I have no clue what current market will stand; others on here do. Well.
I can answer your question. Two options: fix it, so buyers can test drive, or (and this is your case ) lower the price to what it would sell for if all the non running things, we'll, didn't run. Call the local scrap yard, to find out what that price is. If is something really special (no clue if briarwood fits. It might, but I kinda doubt it) It might bring more than scrap price.
Hard news, but "known not running, but suspect its a dollar part and 5 min to fix" means the exact same thing as, "you'll havta replace the engine. "
I assume any non-running vehicle is badly in need of repair, and quite possibly needs an engine before you even find out what's going on with the trans and axles. If it's an easy fix, fix it. If not, adjust the price accordingly.
But even if you get it running, it can't be driven. If the brakes just need a new master installed, install it - but it's got an ABS light so that's not promising.
Right now this is a parts car with a bad body. There's no way to evaluate the condition of any part of the drivetrain, so it's not even a good parts car. If it won't take that much to fix it, fix it and reap the benefits. Otherwise, be aware that you're going to get very little for it. That is the unfortunate nature of selling an unfinished "project".

Briarwood basically means "woodgrain and leather".
In reply to Keith Tanner :
That's what I thought, but never was much into an xj. Although I know a guy that commuted one 110 miles each way, got over 500K miles with two rears, one trans and one engine. Bought another to replace it. Last I knew he was close to 300K, with almost nothing.
