My health is coaxing me too sell off my herd of automobiles. Among the herd are 5 1/2 XR$Tis (I kid with the dollar sign), and stacks of related parts. This listing is for a 1988 Mono white car, but everything is for sale.
The price could be much lower (seriously lower) for someone swearing on a stack of bibles (FSM version ok) that this car will compete in newly renamed $2000 Challenge. Otherwise you are likely to part it out, so $1,800 for you.
CONs:
This thing has been sitting outside for a good 13 years, and ALL the parts are at least that Old. Coil overs installed incorrectly. I sold the leather seats. Genrerations of Feral Kittens have been known to nest under the hood. Broken Windshield, Bad sunroof. Florida humidity. Some chainsaw work needed to tow it out. :(
PROs:
-
MC2 Racing Coil overs on front. I used their spring rate suggestions at all 4 corners. Koni Adjustabe dampers.
-
Limited slip differential from a 4WD XR. I put in the MC2 cradle Bushings at the same time.
-
SVO computer with Superchip (Chip inside house)
-
Roller Cam (APR head studs)
-
Rapido Inter-cooler
-
T-bird VAM
-
Metal Radiator
-
World Class T-5 Transmission with 1 piece drive shaft
-
Rebuilt and shaved turbo with a 40Bob Log header
-
Cheap 3” Down pipe (I have 3' piping to make a better one.)
-
There is Likely a 3” in and out muffler in a box in the car.
-
Big (Porsche 944 turbo I think) Fuel injectors. (I think they are 42 and XR are 35?)
-
Walbro 255 fuel Pump
-
Cossie style Fiberglass lower rear wing, Ford Steering Wheel because I'm a Ford guy. :)
-
Rapido gauges (Likely got them with Trans swap). Boost and A/F gauges.
-
It may have the big sway bars on it. I do have them somewhere if not.
-
Swell Aluminum strut brace.
Other Cars: I have another car (stripped for autocross) with the complete running gear, Rapido inter-cooler, and Mustang rims. There are 3 parts cars in the back yard, and a XR cut in half to make a trailer. Buyer is welcome to pick over 3 parts cars for free for items like the replacement windshield.
PARTS: Also available are:
-
Aluminum head with roller cam (Mango-Stick sold it to me after it received minimal damage. Should be workable.)
-
Braided Brake lines, shifter bushings, and some fancy rear Brakes I got from SCCA Champ Ben Martinez (Ben let me know if you want them back.)
-
Gillis Boost Valve. (I went to his house to buy it. Great guy.)
-
Two 17” Cobra style rims (The front coil overs free up the room for fat tires.)
-
Old version of Rapido Mass Air. I think it could work for a Challenge car.
-
Crank window doors.
-
GRM Challengers get Challenge friendly prices.
It's fine with me if someone links this to the Merkur Forum. I have not been active there for many, many years.
P.S.
GRM Challenge Pro Driver, Fast Dan Shields, is aiding me with the sale of my herd. Dealing with Danny is exactly the same as talking to me.
Shorter Version: This car had nearly the full list of go fast parts thrown at it. About 13 years ago a pine cone fell on it and smashed the windshield and passenger front fender (I did replace the fender) .... Then I parked it. (Monkey puzzle tree pine cone for the curious.) If you take it to The GRM Challenge I'll give you Challenge friendly pricing. The car was originally bought and mostly built up in Tampa , then moved to the Mobile, AL area. Then I towed it back to Tampa, replaced the head, and added MC2 parts.
I think I'm going to need a private moment ... no I do not need another Challenge car in the herd and Lil Stampie doesn't need this for his first car/Challenge car.
I forgot about the 40bob log header so I added it to the list.
Here are some photos of the '85 no sunroof car. It was my first autocross car and it's fairly heavily stripped. I believe the bumper cover is in the car. Decent dash, 3" Long wheel studs, Mustang Rims, Rapido inter cooler, 255 Walbro fuel pump, some kind of firmer springs, ok dash, FORD Badge, 150 mph speedo cluster, gutted hood. (I have a T-9 shifter kit in house.) I was working on entering this in the under $1,000 Challenge class at one time. You could buy it separately, but I think The right buyer building a Challenge car could be smart to bundle. Again, 3 parts cars in the back yard to pick over if you need something. (Yes, that is a Model A Chassis, and it is for sale.)
Here is a photo of Ben Martinez's car for a little motivation. Love that rear spoiler. Ben had to stick to class rules that don't apply to The $2000 Challenge.
How much of the model A is there and would there be a title? Still trying to ignore the XR4Ti porn.
In reply to Stampie :
I can answer that with a picture or two. The Model A engine was said to be rebuilt and the owner bolted the engine and transmission into this chassis just to be able to roll everything onto a trailer. There is also a Model T speedster that is similar.
Danny
In reply to Stampie :
Having trouble sending more than one photo with a post.
I have not seen titles for the A and T. Were titles even a thing back when these cars were built? (Definitely have Merkur titles though.)
Danny
In reply to Danny Shields :
PM sent.
All the photos, Merkur, Model A and Model T, were taken when the tarps and/or car covers had just been pulled off. I apologize for all the dirt and leaves that got dumped on the cars in the process. Obviously none of these are show cars, but I'm sure they will clean up a lot better than these initial photos would indicate.
The three Merkur "parts" cars are still under wraps, so you could join us for the "reveal" party.
Danny
I believe the Model T has adapters to take Model A steel wheels. I have extra Model A rims and 15" steel Ford truck rims that fit the A, allowing you to run normal 15" tires (I'd suggest tall and fat in the rear and short and skinny in the front. :) . The Model A was also bought as a potential Challenge car, since it ran and drove at the time.
Sorry to dirty the Merkur thread. :)
Your health!?!? Everything ok?
I stopped by to see Merkur porn then got lost in the model t trap, now see the mess you made !!
Email reply sent. Thanks for inquiring.
Robbie, I tried to send you an email, but it looks like it bounced back.

Ok, I just tried to PM you - we will see if that works!
I sent an email through the board but didn't get a response. I was interested in the the model a and t. Email me at my username at gmail. Thanks
I'd like more info on the aluminum head if it is available separately.
Fladiver64, it looks like my email didn't go through. You all can reach me at fast dan 5 at aol "dot" com with no spaces or my cell 813 four65 and then ten 23.
Danny
Ideally I would like to sell the cars first giving those buyers first shot at the extra parts. I'm more interested in the right buyer than the money. Let's see how things go.

Paging Team Stampie. Team Stampie to the white courtesy phone please.
In reply to Indy-Guy :
You're not helping here ... I've passed on the A and T for now. I just couldn't justify them this close to Christmas. The XR4Tis would be like Challenge project number 5 in line and doubtful I get to them before dinosaur based fuel is banned in all countries.

This is fair. Thanks for the reply.
