I have a manual 3-door that's uglier but daily driveable that I'd let go for not a lot more money. I need to clean it up and list it here.
Agree that slush-o-matics suck, but for $1k how much to add the third pedal? We are Grassroots, right? This is a pretty car.
Conversion is pretty straightforward (detailed instructions on Saabnet). '90 is the last year of the 2-liter NA engine, before the somewhat problematic 2.1 arrived. Guessing on the East Coast, a good 5-speed from a long-ago-rotted-out donor won't be too hard to find. '89-'90 are the best years for transmissions; even better if from a nonturbo (less torque through it in the past). Center console design is a bit wonky from year to year, e.g., the seat widths forced the console widths to evolve, plus, if memory serves, window switch packs from later cars may not shove up into earlier consoles.
Longwinded way of saying, someone should buy this car, pull the auto. and re-purpose it as a boat anchor, install 5 speed, restitch the seats (common problem), enjoy. Then turbocharge.
