I'm too far away to help with weekday transportation, and it's too much of a project for me to take on right now anyway (or maybe ever), but I hope someone is able to save it from being scrapped! I would hate to see that happen, especially with all the work that's gone into it so far.
I have 10 cars at the moment and am building a building this fall. I had a souped up 1980 Fiesta which was a fun ride, so I can just imagine this thing with that motor would be quite a sleeper. Just no place to put a car that can't sit outside. Very tempting but just not sure where to put it.
I wrote you an entire PM as I'm in PA and I could easily grab it, but then I realized there are six or seven project cars in the shop I need to get finished. I think this would be a great DD to get me from home to my shop instead of driving the gas-sucking Ram pickup. I must be getting older or more reasonable or more realistic or more broke, because years ago the trailer would already be hooked up for the road trip and a new project thread ready to be started.
I'm definitely getting older! Damnit!!!!
I deleted the PM, but good luck with your sale. I wish it was to me.
so is this sorted out or is it headed to scrap tomorrow!?!?
Possibly against my better judgement, I sent an email last night, so if no one else is lined up to get it, I'm hoping I can pick it up in time. I haven't heard anything yet (hopefully the email went through) but we'll see...

I really hope you can make a good home for this. It seems like a fun project with some real potential.

I hope so too. I'm sure some of the work is going to be far outside my realm of knowledge, but I'll try to figure it out, hopefully with help from this forum. I figure worst case scenario, at some point I decide I'm in too far over my head, and I list it for sale here, and someone else will get a shot at it. My biggest objective right now is keeping it out of the scrapyard, which should be very possible, since I have an open garage bay for it where it should be safe.

Link your build thread here and I KNOW you'll get all the help and advice you need (and more, hah).
This forum has it's oddities, but I've found the people here love to enable and assist. I know I'm ecstatic this project car has been saved!
I fully agree. We can get you through anything you might need to do

First vote for repainting in the Radwood baby blue with pin stripes like the hatch. Unclear what color it started out though. Carry on.
That should be a really fun car. That's a nice amount of power for a car that weighs so little.

Looks like it's heading to Michigan! Thanks for saving it guys. It pains me to let it go, but I have too much up in the air right now to worry about moving/storing it. Hope to see some future updates on it here.
Oh E36 M3, did I buy it? I thought that was a dream.
Congrats to both of you. Glad it's being saved and that I'm not the one doing it.

Sweeeeeet! If you ever need a second set of hands (albeit with all the mechanical skills of a potted plant), let me know. I probably still owe you some "shop time" for my son's Suzuki (which still runs like a top BTW) I've also got a group of guys I know that have been trying to put together a challenge effort but haven't found the right car yet, some of whom are actually pretty mechanically talented, so I could probably make introductions.

Sold!!
I'm so glad this found a home. And the home is in fact closer to me, increasing my chances of seeing it in person.
In reply to Robbie (Forum Supporter) :
The closer it gets to Illinois the more likely it ends up in one of our garages....
Glad it found a home
I am so jealous someone else got this, but so glad it's still together.
In reply to kazoospec :
It’s still a secret who bought it.
Glad to hear about the SX4.
I did buy it, just got it in my garage a few minutes ago. First step is going to be getting all the spare parts shelved and organized, then get it running again (PCM is unplugged and a couple grounds need to be grounded), and then do all the things to make it move.
I will be going with the bermuda blue, and trying to replicate the stripes.
Build thread will be coming, once things start happening and it's less than 4000 degrees outside. (it's so hot out that I didn't even notice my finger was in the picture until I posted it)
