I agree that a race car deserves better. Not sure how that car would fair trying to get ready for the challenge. There probably isn't much left on it that is usable. Making it driveable for $1200 more buck would be a task. 
Still cool as hell though.

I'd build a roof rack out of some tiny little factory frame rails. The rule doesn't say frame rails *being frame rails*.
