I'll say it: it's ugly.

I happen to love the looks of a pontoon testarossa. Not so big on the drivetrain. Don't know why the guy didn't leave in the 400 v-12 and a manual box. If he'd done that, then wow!

For real! Obviously the builder cannot count cylinders.

I think a 400i convertible, really nicely done, could be pretty cool. Like with a good cloth top and removable hard top. Seems a lot nicer than this. But that's just my opinion. Nice big wedgy Ferrari that you can use all year round and take anywhere.

Is it just me, or did he not get the look quite right? I've always liked the "real ones", but somehow this doesn't look right. Sort of like this:

Close, but no.

I went looking, and there are some 400-type conversions out there already. Some don't look amazing from all angles, but sometimes...

Engine/trans(?) choice aside, I rather like this one. I have seen that Dino for sale 6-8 months ago as well.

As much as I like the 400i, I would opt for the 456 GT M as a potential donor car for earlier Ferrari recreations.

I like it. Nothing ugly about about the original red headed step child, and no one will loose sleep over him cutting up a 400 that most likely had a blown engine that wasn't worth replacing. They are pretty much the biturbo of the Ferrari family.

I think the 456 has too many fans for a cut up. I remember when they were new and did the miata, price over msrp, thing.

I wouldn't even know where to start on the 250's. IIRC, the Dino was for sale at around 160K or thereabouts.

But, there is a solid lead for your future Testa Rossa.

What's stopping you?

I will give you some advice, if you are having some ideas about doing that, do not bring it up here. They will talk you into making it a Abarth/Zagato/SZ/GT/Speciale full on Monte Carlo contender.
