I know nothing about sailboats, but I want one. I now live near a terrific lake, and I am ready to learn.
Does it need anything for a beginner to get started?
How soon do you need it gone?
In reply to SVreX :
It needs exactly nothing to be a great beginner boat. Very stable and hard to turtle. I can stand on one gunwhale and it won't roll over. We bought it to teach ourselves to sail and it's perfect for that. It's a great lake boat. It's literally been parked in my garage for 2 years without moving until I washed it yesterday, so there's no real deadline. I just decided I could really use the space for staging home repairs this winter, and since we bought the power boat it just sits.
I didn't get the PM, but you can email me directly at the.<username> at gmail
I'm very fond of the silly little boat, I'd love to see it go to someone on GRM so they can live out their Buffett fantasies too.
BTW, there is a small owners community on FB around these boats, so a fair amount of info is out there.
I owned this same model of boat a few years ago (Ok 19 years ago). Paid $300 for it and dragged it home needing a complete overhaul and painting. Sold it after 4-5 years for $800 when I hadn't used it for over a year. Mine came with this horrible little direct drive 1.2 horsepower motor that never worked when I needed it to. I installed a trolling motor to get around at docking speed and was much happier. I didn't like the way it sits on a single wheel in the trailer so I built bunks for the hull to rest on, that was an improvement as well.
Fun little boats to learn to sail in, roomy cockpit and very stable. Four adults and a couple of kids are perfectly fine for an afternoon of punting about on the lake.
