Is that the NMNA link you meant?
As for the "why?" - when you've got a 4 door 57 Chevy, a lot of time on your hands, a reasonable amount of skill, and you really wanted a coupe?
I'd be tempted to do that just to anger the purists. I'm not knocking anybody's taste, but I've never understood the tri 5 thing. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of them considering how many I see at local car shows. So maybe a better question is "why not?"
I used to see quite a few of these shortened 4dr creations when I was growing up and going to car shows in the 80s. A lot people just saw 4drs as parts cars, and not as much as classics. Today, you can order new sheet metal to transform your 4dr tri-5 into a 2dr post. These were made with desire to do something with what you had on hand.
never did like the shorties... in any bodystyle. Only seen a few that did not make me want to poke my eyes out. Including this one!
Although Barefoot's point about upsetting purists with ego problems is well taken.
I just can't unsee the awful roof line at the back. The door does not flow into the rear window and there's just no way to make it look nice.
It's not as if they didn't build a car with the right number of doors.
The only shorty I ever liked was a shorty VW Bus. Given the value of a VW bus today, it is never going to be done in the future.
