So a friend is visiting from Thunder Bay Canada and she wrecked her FIL's Neon.  They are the second owners after the "little old lady" that bought it new. It has something like 27K miles on it. Neon fans can probably figure out the year, I have no idea yet. I can find out more tomorrow.  She is heading home Friday and wants to get it gone by then. I can store it for a while if there is anyone here wanting to feed off the carcass. I think it will still drive onto a trailer but the core support is pushed in pretty far. Probably scrap value pricing. She said she was trying to get it taken to scrap but the title is on its way from Canada right now.

edit: it looks like its a Plymouth so that makes a 00-01

Where in FL are you?  St. Pete?  Can you tell if the support is shoved into any engine components?  I've got a friend who runs a Neon in 24 Hours of LeMons and Lucky Dog...in fact I'll be driving it in less than a month.  I just happen to be coming to Florida on vacation next week and was planning a daytrip to St. Pete to visit someone.  Let me make a few calls, and let me know any other info...or if you can snap a few more pics (even interior).

That's so sad. She must be beating herself up. Hopefully it will find a good home here.

If something with SKJSS doesn't come together I'm interested.  I'm in Central Florida over by DeLand.

To help enable, I know a guy in Pinellas County that rents nice trailers.  He has a steel flat deck with winch and also a bagged trailer where the entire deck drops to road level for easy loading.

OK. I got a good look at everything in daylight. It starts right up but has a surge at idle, like it is trying to overcome something wrong with a sensor.   2.0L automatic built 11/00 with 23647 miles!  I think I was the first person to sit in the back seat while taking the pictures. It has been garage kept its whole life. I will have the car at my shop for a while with title in hand. She said "get what you can for it" they offered her $450 at local salvage yard if it was delivered.

I will cut some of the damaged stuff away to get a better look at the engine once I have it at my shop.

My friends run a gen 1 Neon, so they said they likely couldn't use this.  But damn it's clean.  Wonder if you could tie it to a tree, then put a hood and headlight on it?

After seeing it in the light myself I'm looking into what the parts to fix will cost. Doing my best to resist another project of any kind though.  Once I get the hood cut open I'll have a better idea of how bad it is.

The "surge" at idle is likely related to the fact that the airbox has been moved and air filter exposed so this means the air sensor is not sensing and its guessing how much fuel to allow.    Replace the box and get the sensor sensing and it will likely be fine.

But, how much metal has been moved that resulted in the moving of the plastic box?  That's the underlying question.

Does the car have a clean Florida title?  The car has more value with that. Cut and stuff the airbags, remove the hood, put air box back together and put it on Fb for 1k$ as is.
