I'm looking for a 73-87 GM "square body" truck. Willing to look at anything from a non-running/driving project to a driver. Budget is going to be the limiting factor on how nice I can get, willing to look at anything from a free basket case parts truck up to around a $4000-ish truck but cheaper is always better. Paint condition isn't important, mainly just want to avoid rust as much as possible but I realize old trucks are going to have some rust especially in my price range. Hoping to find a "backyard beauty" that hasn't been hit with the Facebook marketplace mark-up yet.
Only interested in 2wd trucks.
What I'm looking for (in order of preference)
- regular cab short bed C10
- fullsize Blazer/Jimmy
- crew cab C20 or C30 (single wheel or dually)
My buddy bought a '73 K20 in the summer of '79 and it's amazing how rusty it was (Chicago area).
That being said plan on rust issues at that price.
1973-1975 Blazers are sweet cause the full top comes off but cheap 2wd ones are all snatched up. Figure a New Mexico, Denver or a west coast truck
Did you just watch Frieburgers Roadkill show about his truck?
Yeah, I realize I'm going to deal with rust, especially stuff in my price range.
Which truck on Roadkill? The muscle truck?

How far do you want to travel?
Yes, the MT. After I see an episode I'm convinced I need one.

For the right truck, I'll drive to get it or pay to have it transported. I know that I would probably get a less rusty truck from out west.

With everyone staying at home for Covid the prices on all project vehicles skyrocketed, not to mention the fact that in general people that grew up with these vehicles are now making enough money to afford to build them themselves.
Give it a year or two and I'd think that prices are going to drop down, how much they drop is a matter for debate.
Everything is way over priced these days..
Don't low ball me,I know what I got.. mostly rusty piles of junk.
Around here if it's drivable and under 3k it sells quickly.

Keeping it to 2wd will help keep the price down a little. Still not cheap but 4wds for thus era are going ultra high.
Everyone wants to re live the Jon Baker truck...
My Dad had a 78 K10 reg cab short bed when I was a kid about 30 years ago so I've always had fond memories of these body style trucks. I bought a semi decent 78 K10 reg cab short bed about 15 years ago for $500 but I didn't have the money/time/space to keep it for long. Sold it after less than a year for $1000 when I needed some cash.
I have my grandpa's 90 C1500 RCLB that he owned since around 95. And I just picked up a 95 C1500 RCSB roller a couple weeks ago that I'm going to fix up.

I bought my 78 out of Arizona in 2017 for $4k. No way you're getting close to a decent starting point at that price range right now.

My friend has a nice 76 4x4 lifted with 35s that he restored about 15 years ago. Paint is ok, some rust under the doors, 1/2 ton truck originally but is all 3/4 drivetrain now with a mildly built 454 ( 468 I believe now? )
Apparently that's a 20k truck now
