A hand-built, limited-edition Swiss GT from the Middle East

Yes, that headline is a lot to digest, but this 1970 Monteverdi 375L Coupé should catch your eye, nevertheless.

Indeed, it’s got a Hemi. This one carried the 7-liter V8 that was rated for 375 horsepower (hence the name). The “L” in 375L meant this car was the extended, 2+2 version.

This example from a collection in the Middle East isn’t perfect. The seller notes that it will require recommissioning and possibly “more extensive refurbishment.” Furthermore, there are no documents with this lot. However, the seller adds that it’s “a wonderful opportunity to acquire one of these rare, limited edition Swiss Gran Turismos.”

Find this 1970 Monteverdi 375L Coupé for auction at Bonhams, with an estimated winning bid of 70,000-100,000 CHF (approximately $77,280-$110,400). 

Not a Hemi, friend. Those cars came with Chrysler 383s or 440s. This being a later car, is likely the 440. The Monteverdi Hai, a mid-engine car, was the only one from the factory with a 426 Hemi. Two high-profile owners of Monteverdi 375 series cars are Jay Leno and Bob Lutz. I saw Mr. Lutz' car at a NYC car event some years ago (the Louis Vuitton show at the Rockefeller Center).
