Weeks before Subaru signed him to a contract, Colin McRae took this 1976 Ford Escort Mk II to compete in the Hackle Rally in his native country of Scotland, where he took the win.

The story goes that even though McRae was entered in the Hackle Rally, he didn't have a car to use. Luckily his uncle, Hugh “Sugh” Steele, came to the rescue with this Ford.

This Mk II also comes with a wealth of documentation of its history, making it that much more special.

Find this 1976 Ford Escort Mk II up for auction at Silverstone Auctions, with an estimated winning bid of 200,000-240,000 Pounds ($240,200-$288,200).

It would be great if the article quoted the year in which he drove this car to win the specified event, wouldn't it?

Good point, I hear you.

According to the listing, McRae ran the Escort in the 1990 Hackle Rally.
