Featuring a build date of September 1954, this 300 SL is among the earliest models built.
Soon after rolling off the assembly line, the car was displayed at the 1954 Earls Court Motor Show.
Mercedes-Benz of Great Britian would then retain the 300 SL until early 1956, when it was sold to Noel Carr–race car driver, heir to the Carr’s Biscuits fortune and part-time car dealer–who then sold it to a Mr. Charles Gardner in August of 1956.
Since then, some 68 years ago, the 300 SL has remained in the Gardner family.
From 2005-2010, the Mercedes-Benz underwent a frame-off restoration that refinished the car in its original color combo. Citing how the car looked when it was displayed at the Earls Court Motor Show, a set of rare Rudge center-lock wheels were also fitted during the restoration.
In addition to retaining its numbers-matching chassis, body and engine, the 300 SL is accompanied by a workshop manual and an extensive history file.
