BMW built just 78 examples of the BMW 503 Series I convertible. Of those, just 13 were sent directly to the U.S. This is one of them.

This particular example has remained in California for most of its life, until the ’00s, when it moved to the Netherlands.

The BMW retains its numbers-matching 3.2-liter V8. It underwent a nut-and-bolt restoration from 2018 to 2023, with receipts totaling €125,000 (approximately $136,518).

Find this 1957 BMW 503 Series I Convertible up for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated value of $320,000-$430,000.

The 503s are stunning when seen in person. The Prince of Bavaria has one. (Makes sense, right? He supports his home team!).

I met him and his blue 503 at a castle in Germany a few years ago,  he was on a road rally with it.

Agreed! That's an awesome encounter with a 503 and its owner. I don't feel the 503s get the attention they deserve. Thanks for sharing your story!
