So I have been considering an additional car purchase for the last 6 months or so. I have always wanted one of those stupid 1996 one of one hundred, Neiman Marcus 007 edition BMW z3's.
Opinions? I am, as many know, a huge fan of all things Bond, and bought that this would be a nice addition to my DB7 and coming my soon White S2 Esprit.
I think the 007 edition could actually be worth some money and have even found one to buy.
Any opinions from the crowd?

Z3's would almost fit into the unloved category. I would think of them as a good car to drive a lot since it could be a long time before the value of the regular editions begin to rise. I hear the high cost of repairs is an issue.
Cheers

The James Bond theme is interesting, but does involve some pretty pricey cars. If you go down that road you will need to eventually own one of these:
About to pull the trigger on this Z3. Made a real offer to the dealer tonight. If they take my offer you will probably see me with it at the Mitty.
In reply to Andy Reid:
I thought that was a girl's car? :-) Well, my sister in law does own one.
This might be the closest you've come to buying a Miata, Mr. Reid.
Maybe you've actually owned one before, but either way, you've owned a Fiat Spider, which is even better.
Did you drive it first? I have to admit I was unimpressed with the one Z3 I have driven. I found it so hard to see over the hood I never felt comfortable driving it fast, and I'm 6'1" tall!
A Miata was way more fun, so was my Alfa Spider.
But I do have a nice collection of Corgi Bond cars from 30 years ago. :)
Basically a cut down E36, so look out for anything plastic in the cooling system.
Does it include the matching luggage? I'd suspect if they become valuable down the road, having all the special extras will be key.
I can't imagine anyone but a Bond fanatic caring about the special edition Z3. They were the earliest of Z3s--- all 4cyl and pretty uninspiring to drive.
But, given the price of DB6s these days, maybe there are more Bond fanatics out there than I realize. Problem is, when people think of Bond, they don't think of a Z3. DB6 yes, Esprit yes, DB7 yes, Z3 or Matador.......no.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Z3 only showed for like a minute, and with Mr. Bond only driving it very slowly? I'd love a Z3 M Coupe, but no love for the standard Z3.
Sorry Andy, no rudeness intended.
Our fair weather year round daily driver is a '96 w/ hardtop and two tone interior. I enjoy driving it as much or more than my wife does. Girl's car? Who cares. We both love it. We also took it on a 6,000 mile road trip last summer to Colorado and points west, averaging 30+ mpg. Making plans for another trip this summer down to the Carolinas. As with most bimmers, preventative cooling system maintenance is a must but otherwise, the car has been trouble free. And yes, fitted luggage is helpful for road trips.

Along those lines, I have to suspect the M Roadster may be worth more in the long term than the Bond edition, even if it is a bit more common.
Agree with the M edition being worth more.
After long negotiations with the dealer I decided to pass on it. They want more that I think it is worth and have decided to hunt for a Aston Martin Vanquish instead.
The car is at Hilton Head Lexus and can be had for 10K plus the tax and tags. Nice car. Had it inspected by a former BMW NA person who knows the cars well.
