People with Too Much money "Really" wanted one of those !

Worse yet everyone with something similar will think they are sitting on a gold mine...

We remember when an E30 M3 didn't cost much but have also watched the prices go up, up, up. If talking ’80s icons, though, it’s near the top of the pile. 

So what's a good alternative?

Mercedes 190 Cossie? Although good ones of those aren't cheap either, especially the 2.3-16V that the US never got IIRC.
