My family seems to appreciate my car hobby but not enough to participate very much. They all (both kids and wife) seem to like to drive the Miata but that is coming back for my wife to use. It was bought and refurbished for her. To be fair, they all have their own hobbies and busy lives, just not with vintage cars.

Im really lucky...When I got back from Iraq I told my Mom that I was going to get a Morgan...She paid off my Subaru(Just a little bit) so I could get the Morgan with out much pain. She was most upset when she could not reach the pedals! My GF throws on one of my old flightsuits and slides right under the car and loves having the windscreen folded so she can wear her vintage goggles. I did have to teach her how to saftey wire though.

Huh! I thought I voted YES.
I have a big family and we regularly get some of my gang to join us at car events. When we get together for other family events (Xmas, etc) a lot of them seem to want to know what my upcoming schedule is. I know that at least my daughters, son-in-laws and grandaughter are planning on coming to the NJMP/VRG Vintage in '09.
I think it helps that I don't wear people out talking about cars.....some of my car friends are over-the-top as far as cars are concerned and they never talk about anything else. 
Also, when family members come to race, I feed them (important!) and they get the keys to the van in case they want to "explore" during the day (ie-wine tours in the Watkins Glen area).
I think it should have been a 3rd layer. Sometimes :)
Even my wife "tolerates" my hobby and indulges me from time to time.
I'm hoping this year the GT6 will be a little more enjoyable for her with the completed interior.

We tend to more and more of the car stuff as a family. Of course, my son is into it, but my daughter is also learning to drive. Tours and shows seem to be more popular than races and autocrosses, as there is less standing around and better venues.
It's funny because my dad was the reason for me loving and being into the cars i'm into, sports cars and the racing, and i'd rather go to a vintage event but it seems like now since I am older to know more about them and have been around people and reading Grassroots for over 10 years, ever since I was I think 8. I have a bigger interest in it and want to get our Bugeye running more than my dad, but I'm getting on his nerves about it, good nerves, so maybe he'll crack!
I'm 18 and this is what i'm into, my way of thinking, and want to make my living with, that's what it's kind of hard to prove to people because I want to make a good impression, because pretty much 99.8% of 18 year olds don't like these and hanging around the old farts
We found the way to automotive hobby happiness is to share and compromise, just as we do in all other aspects of our marriage. Sharing was kind of hard when we vintage raced; my wife was bored when I drove and during the season when she tried her hand, I was a nervous wreck! Car shows were also less than exciting for her although we still attend them on occasion as we get to visit with others about both automotive as well as non-auto stuff. After all, it's the interesting people that make up a big part of our hobby.
The answer turned out to be rallyes, where we are both integral to a successful outcome. Seems the wife is more competitive than I realized and once she mastered the Tulip book, she was in her element. TSDs, gimmick, tours, we enjoy them all. We have found that we work great as a team, knowing when to give in to the other's requests. I get the pleasure of piloting the car, and she enjoys taking charge as only the navigator can do during the heat of battle. And she gets even more excited about bringing home a trophy than I do!
I want to find a girl like that!
