Got any snaps of your first classic?

Here's mine......a '56 MGA 1500. Coincidentally, it's parked next to my second classic car (the TR3) which had just replaced MGA. Sold the MG soon after this for $60 (it ran too). The TR3 cost me about $160 I think. Picture taken in '68 (I bought the MG in '67). Neither were really "classics" when this was taken. Both tatty but both great fun. More like buying a first generation Miata today.

My first car was a '71 Datsun 510. Does that count?

I still have my first car, a 1952 MG TD. I'll see if I can round up some pictures from 1971.

Mine was a '71 Fiat 850 Spider in Martian Red (more like orange, really), bought new. I'd worn out too many motorcycle helmets, and my folks offered to pay for half of a NEW car to get me off any more bikes. It had to be new so it would be reliable and I wouldn't spend all my time fiddling with it instead of going to classes.

The only sporty cars I could afford half of new were the Fiat and MG Midget, and I just liked the Spider better (no offense meant to Spridget fans). It actually was really reliable other than a few electrical glitches now and then.

My first car was a '72 GT6 when I was 16 and I drove well into my junior year of college. I sure wish I had it back!

I suppose I've only owned two that could be considered classics. The 260Z and the X1/9.

Everything else is still too new.

No snaps of it (didn't do much photography back then) but my first car was a SAAB 99 GLS.

I still have a hard time driving 'normal' cars .

My first car was a '71 Comet. I bought it for $150 in 1987 and drove it for a few months until our mechanic failed its yearly inspection for shock tower rust. It was replaced by a '82 Subaru 4WD wagon that I loved. Unfortunately, we weren't much into photography back then, so no photos.

My first "car" was a 1960 series 1 Sunbeam Alpine. Original color was black but showing its age. A friend offered to paint it so I began sanding only to find there wasn't much metal left beneath the paint. When it was done, there was probably 20 lbs of bondo on the front end and sanding marks visible throughout as I had used a coarse grit paper.

My first vehicle (preceeding the Sunbeam) was actually a 1967 Dodge van (it was the early 70's after all), which soon became reupholstered in orange shag carpet, including the dash! After 2 years of ownership, I traded it staight across for the above mentioned Sunbeam.

My first car was a pretty cool '68 Camaro. I had many pictures of it, all taken by my girlfriend. One time when we had an argument (after I sold it) she burned all the pictures of it. So all I have are memories.

Mine looked like this in 1972. It rusted with winter use. At the time it was just an inexpensive used car that got a tremendous 50mpg and could be driven as my main driver. Cheers Ron

My first sports car "classic" was a '67 TR4A I bought when I was in college in the early '80's. Before that I also had a '70 Boss 302 and a '67 Cougar XR7 GT. The Cougar was SOOO much faster than the Mustang, but it could barely break into double digits fuel mileage-wise. Also in college I had a '72 Midget, and an '71 Audi 100LS. I'll have to hunt for pictures.

My first car / first classic was a '61 Series II Sunbeam Alpine purchased in July of '66 for $400. It was my daily driver through a couple of New England winters until '68 when I picked up a not-so-classic '62 Chevy II station wagon for a winter car. Those two lasted until a '68 Volvo 1800S came along in April, '70. I kept the Alpine the longest and sold it along with another '61 parts car sometime in the 80s for $500. No pics of any of them though.

My first car was a 1978 Ford Fiesta. Had the Cortina engine and it was a blast. Unreliable as heck at first. Took me over a year to get all the bugs out of it. Once straightened out, it was great.

My first car was a 1956 VW Beetle in 1962. That was followed by a 1963 Valiant convertible, a 65 Valiant 2 door sleeper (V8, 4 speed etc.), a 67 Barracuda with the formula S package, then came a 69 Alfa GTV. The original GTV succumbed to the rust bug, but I've had a GTV ever since. (I'd love to have the money the cuda would bring today)

First car was a 1958 A-H 100-6 I bought in 1966 for $800. Perfect car for the 5 hr. commute to VaTech my 2nd year ! Never let me down, but taught me a lot about SU's, Lucas electrics, low hanging exhaust, etc. I do miss it !

My first ever car was a 1971 Jeep Commando. Not much more to say about that.

My second car, and the one not influenced at all by my father, was a 1970 Fiat 124 spider. It was a piece of crap, but I loved it. I later bought a nearly identical one that wasn't rusted to hell: At the same time I had the Spider I also owned a surprisingly solid 1973 124 coupe that had been traded in at the local Plymouth dealer: Both still survive. The original 124 I had was too rusty to save and got hacked in half. Don't know or care what happened to the Jeep.

If you're talking about first classic car owned then my 70 Opel GT is that. The cars I learned to drive in and the first couple I owned weren't classics then but are now. I learned to drive in a 69 Datsun 510 wagon and drove a 65 Chevelle (6-cyl, powerglide and no power anything, steering or brakes) 4-door. Married to my first wife we had a 63 Rambler then a 72 Pinto. The Pinto was 6 years old when we bought it. She got it in the divorce. When I married the current wife, I bought a 74 Pinto and it was 7 years old then. Bought the 74 for $200 put about $300 into it, drove it for a little over a year and sold it for $800 when I bought my first new car - 82 Nissan Sentra.

First car for me, 1935 Ford Town Sedan. I was15 years old, no lic., and bought it with my paper route money. Org little old lady car. Son made her stop driving in 1948, after denting 3 of the fenders, and still had those tags in 1956, when i pulled it out of a storage barn. 88 street cars to date, have a Sion tC, and 2 FI Yugos.

Mine was a 1968 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe, blue with black interior. I used to pretend it was a Ferrari 250 when I drove it. I loved that car. I reassembled it myself.

Next was the worlds rustiest 1968 912 Targa.

Then I replaced it with the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2.

My first car was a 1959 Anglia Prefect, paid $70 for it.

Girls though it was cute and I was harmless.

My second car however ......

'64 Galaxie convertable, 352 4 speed in the hands of a 17 year old?

I learned to drive as a teenager on my mom's Austin Mini 850 and dad's Corvair. My first car was a 1968 Triumph Spitfire that I bought in 1971 for $1200. Had $600 towards it and had to get my dad to co-sign the bank loan for the rest since I was a college student at the time.

in 1967, I bought my first car, a '59 or '60 Austin 7 (Mini 850), followed that summer by a $100 1956 TR3.
