Car commercials often hang on the dream: Buy this mid-priced, three-row SUV with more cup holders than you’ll ever need and you–yes, you–can tackle the wilds.

Then insert footage of a smiling family fording streams and straddling boulders without a care in the world.

$1200/month payments? Scratches to the paint? Those things do not concern us.

How about some reality–where, …

VW ads for the Beetle. 60's and 70's (maybe). 2 stood out

The car the snowplow driver drives.

We asked a famous car designer what we should change. He said make the rear window larger. So we did.

Simple, to the point, effective...

Definitely the GI Joe hustles to pick up Barbie in a toy 300ZX. Captured the excitement with a sense of humor perfectly Late 80s/early 90s retro with that Van Halen soundtrack...

Agree with Shell/Ferrari F1 Commercial and VW "Little GTI"

I would add two:

C6 Vette Jumpin Jack Flash - I think it was banned.   and

Audi Commander from Super Bowl

Two more:

VW Beetle from 1968 or 1969: Fresh-faced young guy from VW's ad agency walks into an old-school Tin Pan Alley-type song shop, complete with two elderly songwriters. He says he needs a catchy song about the Beetle's improvements this year. They say they can write a jingle about anything; what's he got? He starts with an improvement to the gas filler door. They look at each other. What else? Well, the windshield wiper motor now lasts longer. As he goes through his list of about 50 upgrades, the two old guys look more and more discouraged. Finally, one of them says, "Kid, five t'ousand canaries whistling 'The Blue Bird of Happiness' couldn't help you."

And who can forget George Thorogood's custom remix of "Bad to the Bone" on behalf of the turbo Regal? ("Wouldn't you really rather have a B-B-B-Buick?")

BTW, can anybody tell me what the background music is on that Porsche commercial? TIA.

The Honda Odyssey Rube Goldberg single take. Loved the back story.

Honorable mention;

"Ikea Rug Sale". Not a car commercial but featured the venerable Datsun 510, the best budget driver's car.

The Ferrari Shell commercial is hands down the best car ad ever!

Tee it up on Youtube, and take your resting pulse rate, then watch that ad and take your pulse rate at the end.  If it hasn't gone up, you are either a) not a car nut, or b) dead

"What to feed a Porsche 944 Turbo?" The music, the simple visual of a power sliding 951, pure perfection.
