Here's my latest craigslist find:

Not a fintail, but cool. Wish it was a stick.

That looks pretty decent, given that they can rust almost as well as an Italian car of the same period. The indicator switch is a case of "they all do that", but IIRC it's not that cheap a fix and a little involved.

Yea, I'm going to go look at it on Saturday before I hit the Rolex24. If nothing else than to see what 20 benjamins will buy you in a vintage merc.

Nice Benz. I like how the ad notes cold AC. I have a W123, and the AC is so cold its almost unhealthy. Its better than my '07 Jetta. The funny thing is, the compressor is a GM unit. Why can it last 25 years+ in a Benz but only 5 or so in a GM car?

Ad looks like good transportation for the money to me.

Matt what type of AC is in your car? Is it 134a or r12? My car got converted to a lousy york compressor which doesn't work and am interested in what does work.

That looks like a nice car but the color is a bit blah. For the price you can't beat it though.

Ah the twin cams. I worked as a line tech and remember the valve adjustments well.

Baron, I am suprised yours was converted to a York. Usualy it would be the other way round. Perhaps it was a York originaly? I dont remember the cut off but the earlier cars had Yorks on them.

I saw the data card and it originally had a behr AC unit installed, when it was shipped to the US I think they had to change the compressor to the York so a smog pump bracket could be fitted and the car smogged. I guess the York is a real pig, I just got the car smogged and am going to pull the AC unit off and see about finding a replacement which has similar mounting for the smog pump.

Looked good from 10 ft, but wound up being pretty rusty in the trunk. Not cool enough for me to want to do that much sheetmetal work.

Notorious rust spot there. IIRC they're from the era when Mercedes had a few problems creating a watertight trunk and a lot of them go there. I've seen supposedly decent ones that look good from less than 10ft that also allow you to inspect your shoes right through the trunk floor.

benzbaron; my compressor is original in an 84 300D. I understand they were GM made or sourced units, but I don't know for sure, I've never checked. AC sure does work, though.

I'll have to pull the compressor and take a look. Thanks for the info Matt I'll have to look into the GM AC units. My smog pump is from a buick so a GM AC unit would complete the picture.

Damn leaky trunks tell me about them, I think it was a factory option.

ad expired, hard to tell what car it was other than it was a benz.
