Longtime GRM reader and even Classic Motorsports reader, and under 30! I have had this awesome old Envoy Epic for about 5 years now. Some of you in the Southern Ontario vintage scene may recognize it a VARAC racer built it. Its a great little car stripped from 4 to 2 seats, fairly complete roll cage, and a KA24E non turbo motor for motivation with lots of metal work.
Fast forward a few years from the original purchase. I bought it in my early 20's now my mechanical abilities are way higher, I have a shop and my brother is a machinist by trade. my questions are what would you do to the suspension in order to make it drive less like a boat. The suspension consists of a transverse leaf up front to a-arms and leaf springs out back. Believe it or not the original tiny rearend is still intact and full of royal purple. It has disks up front, newish shocks, and newish tires. It has a ton of slop in the wheel,(possible steering box issues maybe) and the rearend defientely lugs, and moves under accell/decell.
My plan short of chopping the car to pieces and putting a miata d-line in is: new bushings in everything, new steering box, and possible ladder bars/pan hard bars. Let me know your opinion!
Yours thoughts are much appreciated. Parts sources for it would be helpful :) Heres some suspension pics.
Heres a link to the car after I stumbled apon the Great Race stopping in my town. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2012/09/12/great-race-roadies-bring-around-a-rare-to-us-envoy-epic/
