The photo below is from a race at Dayton, Oh. Speedway in the late 50's and we are trying to ID what kind of car it started out as. It is possibly heavily modified with some homebuilt features. This is the only photo known to exist. The front end looks like it is similar to a lot of cars, but not close enought to be sure.

Not sure, it looks home built, but I'm now in the want to know column too!

Good riddle. Too bad there aren't any class markings to give us a clue. At first I thought maybe a butchered Kurtis 500K, but that was a big car and this doesn't look to be very big. The door doesn't even reach the driver's upper arm. So maybe it's one of many, many smaller H Modified cars built in the 50s, possible a butchered Jabro or Jomar or something like that. Take a look at this site for an idea of some of the many ingenius and not so ingenius H Modifieds built in the olde days:

It'll probably take somebody that actually saw this car in action or had a connection with the car or the driver to identify it.

Thanks Gary for the help. I was thinking it was a KK derivative, but it is not definative enough to say for sure.

This race the picture was from was actually an ARCA type stock car race, so although it was a road race type car, it was not competing in a typical road race on that day. The race results for Dayton Speedway from then are very incomplete and it has been a mystery for awhile on the Dayton Speedway Lives web site.

Allard? Even though it looks to be on the small side.
