Interesting little gathering hosted by the Oilers Car / Motorcycle club which was founded in 1947, includes pre-war era cars and motorcycles racing on the beach in NJ.

Might make an interesting article for a future issue of Classic Motorsports.

I was there last year. Cool time, and they had a car show down the street with kustoms and other stuff going on as well. If you want to see the racing make sure to get there early and before high tide. They stop when the water gets to close to the racing lanes. You can sit/stand surprisingly close to the action too.

Looks like fun. I've seen this event written up in Hot Rod. No plush street rods. Just real steel like the old days.
Three classes of racing, bangers (4 cylinders), flat heads (V8s) and motorcycles that run down an 1/8 mile course on the beach. No cash prizes, just run for bragging rights and to have a good time.
It doesn't get more "grassroots" or "classic" than that.

Wayne Carini of Chasing Classic Cars and Ray Everham of Americarna both did episodes of the Race of Gentleman. There is probably a way of seeing these episodes which if I remember correctly were both done in the past 12 to 18 months. Wayne drives a car in one episode and Ray Everhams wife Erin Crocker (Sprint Car Driver) is the driver in the other episode. Looks like people were having fun and really getting into the character of hot rod days of long ago.
