I think you guys are reading too much B.S. Levy. If that's possible? :)

I swear it’s not my life that inspires him ( I’m from Minnesota not New Jersey) But there is so much in his books that reflect my life you’d almost expect me to get a royalty check.
In reply to frenchyd:
Then I say congratulations. And you should get a royalty check, he was probably watching.

He should write about the milk train I took to my first out of state race.
I was 14, my dad took me to the train station at 7:30 at night. Then tipped the conductor $5 to look after me and make sure I got off at the right station. I think $5.00 was more than the fare was.
But it really was the milk run because it stopped every few miles and a couple of times right on a cross road. The farmer humped the milk cans on and the train took off. Cool old steam train with an ear piercing whistle.
Got off in Peewaulkee at 5:30 in the morning and hitch hiked to Lyndale Farms race track. Fantastic place. Met Augie Pabst who used an old prewar Bentley to tow his race car. Which was a early Triumph TR4. The Cro Sal special was there. Basically a Cheetah with the roof cut off. The Black Jack took third place but it was the last time it raced with Jaguar power until I restored it 10 years later.
I Remember the bathrooms there were old buses with holes cut into a trench filled with lye and well excrement. Plenty of Yellow jackets
The other thing I miss is the sound of a pack of open header aircooled 911s diving in to turn one . It is a sound that will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. In a good way.
All you need is a quart of castor oil, a half dozen like minded old racers, an eyedropper and a hotplate. You can sit around and tell racing stories while you drip the oil on the hotplate and huff it in.
I can't recall smelling any in use after the 80s and that was in vintage racing - don't recall what car was still using it. Definitely an evocative smell.
In reply to fasted58 :
Haven't seen it recently but a few years back there was someone with a Saab 93 who put a little in his oil tank for that old time smell.
That was with the Pennsylvanis Hillclimb group.
In reply to purplepeopleeater :
Well I’m going to have to stop and get some caster oil and I’ll drop it on the hot plate.
You'll need to log in to post.
