My brother found an Innocenti Sprite up in Connecticut....what do you guys think it would be worth in near-basket case condition? It's fairly solid, but it's just the shell with suspension...no trim/bumpers/engine.

Per: You already know the answer. It would be cheaper to buy a restored one than to finish this one.

Look at what it will cost to finish the project and see if there is a finished car for that price. Since my free time is counted at $30/hour, the answer is ALWAYS to buy the finished car.

The logical answer to your question is that the car has negaive value. You should be paid to haul it away. Thankfully for the hobby, we are not a logical bunch and as a receptable for pouring $20,000 into I figure the car will sell for around 3k.

NotALot would be my guess - they're not really sought after cars as far as I'm aware and the Innocenti-specific parts are not that easy to come by either, even if one has contacts in Italy (which you're pretty much need in order to restore one of these).

I don't think it's worth more than $1k-$1.5k as is.

Have to agree with BoxheadTim. I think the market for this would be a Sprite enthusiast, and they aren't known for paying uber dollars for collector vehicles.

It might command a premium over a "standard" Sprite, but not enough to justify buying it for $3k and restoring it. Restorations are usually emotional not fiscal, but I have a hard time seeing someone getting involved enough emotionally in one of these to justify what it would take. Another case of rarity not equating to value...

Nope, this one:

for considerably less money ($500 would buy it) but it's probably going to get crushed if it doesn't get bought soon.

My main concern would be that the complete interior is missing. I can't remember how different that is from a "standard" Sprite but that might be one of the bigger problems.

OTOH for 500 bucks, a ton of work and a few parts, this might make an interesting classic racer?

That's a Challenge candidate.

"Triumph Spitfire"... Funny.

$500 sounds like a reasonable price for either a challenge build or a vintage racer project if you can find an engine (what did they have?). Either would make the lack of an interior a non-issue.

It looks like this car and the one on Barnfinds is one and the same..someone stripped off the trim pieces and junked it.

Easy to tow challenge fodder. GM 3.4 V6 should fit in there easy. Miata Suspension and HUGE box flairs.

Sure---you guys have at it. My brother just got into an accident last night and his tow vehicle got smushed. So...save this before it becomes a Rolling Rock can.

This car is only worth something if you already have another and need some (rusty) parts.
