I noticed that the front hubs on my recently purchased 2WD 2008 Silverado 2500HD have splines for half shafts. I assume these are for 4WD applications. Do they use the same hub on both, or is something been messed with on this truck?

Lots of them do that now. One less part number to manufacture. First time I saw one was an early 2wd Rav4, on the rear.
I know GM runs a similar setup between 2 and 4wd's, since the change to the GMT800 body.... Only difference is with 2wd, you lose all the front 4wd nonsense and the hubs change to an encapsulated unit as there is no stub to go though and tighten down.
Edit: RockAuto only lists the one hub style for 3/4tons....

Hmm, I had one of those for a couple years and never noticed that. What did they originate?

I would say Equinox. Bolt pattern plus stud size tell me otherwise.
Gotta love the parts bin engineering when you're in bankruptcy....
Or it's just a part on the shelf that already meets the engineering requirements, which is a pretty smart way to build cars.
Yes, the hubs are the same. I just changed them on my 2008 gmc 2500hd 4x4.
I also found hubs for $40cdn with free shipping. So far so good, for the price I bought 2 as they are so cheap AND easy to replace. I love gm trucks!

AWD was an option on the CTS but not V's.
