Question is on the spring positioning for the spring that pushes the pedal back up when you release the clutch. The pedal seems to snap lock into the down position but can be pulled back by hand and snaps to the up position when the mechanism is not installed in the car is this normal? Does the spring positioning in the pics below look correct?

Backstory: 07 Mazdaspeed 3 was recently purchased from buy here pay here lot. Car had clutch/shifting issues but was "a deal" the new owner thought. Hired a bud of mine to install new slave cylinder thinking that was the problem. Bud and owner struggled trying to get new slave cylinder installed without removing pedal assembly yesterday with no success. I got called in to help because I'm small and fit under dashs even though I normally stick to classic car work.

I removed the pedal assembly to find it had been previously removed and messed with when someone previously replaced the slave cylinder. Since the thing had all been apart, new slave installed, and still had clutch/shifting issues I'm not sure the spring was installed correctly when I took it apart and may have been causing the issues where the pedal had to be pulled up off the floor which led them to believe it needed a new slave cylinder.

I think that's normal. I'm vaguely remembering it doing that when I had the slave cylinder off of our 07 and I pushed the clutch it snapped down, and then I just pulled it back up and it was fine.

Thanks, guess I'll install it back in the car with the new slave and see what happens. Hopefully it'll function without the pedal getting stuck in the down position. Since this is the second slave I won't be surprised if it doesn't cure the original problem.
