Its funny to see the recent string of threads about making good financial decisions (debt pay down, retirement savings, etc.) then see threads like this.
You do understand that some folks have $35k cash to plunk down on a car, right?

Yes, of course. I am one of those people. But just because you can doesn't mean you should. The costs of owning a CTS-V are nuts compared to a cheaper, more economical car.

Regardless, its a badass car. If you can plunk down the cash and all of the indirect financial effects of the ownership don't bother you either, then by all means, do it.

I have the means to make this kind of purchase. The only increase in cost I would see are insurance and gas. Maintenance parts are maintenance parts and a big variable. I ride my bike 80% of the time to work anyways.

I have talked myself out of it though for now. I have a brand new car that I enjoy driving and has all features I could ask for. Just going to keep saving to build a dedicated track car/scca car when I'm in a location to do so. For now I'll just mod the Civic to be a autox car with an occasional track day.

By the time all that happens the lease on the wife's scoobie will be up and we'll most likely be looking for something bigger as we also plan to expand the family. Would def be looking for something with more room and towing capabilities for said race car.

If you're wondering why we leased...well the service members civil relief act has this great thing if you get put on orders over 180 days you can turn your lease in with no penalties! I figured it'd be great to have that option on one of our cars in the event that happened. Plus if we like the car enough to keep we can just pay it off at the end or finance whats left.

Oh and what I was getting at is that the Civic would most likely become RACECAR! What????

All this talk about increased insurance is kinda bull. Maintenance may be another issue but maybe not horrible depending on the current car.

I really want a CTS-V Wagon aside from the $50k tag and have gone so far to look up the increase insurance cost and maintenance cost vs the wife's 04 Forester XT.

$7 per month increase for full coverage. Right now we are about $88 per month so it would be a massive increase to $95.

Brake Pads - Forester F/R $9.92 / $8.14
CTS-V F/R $32.79 / $13.62

Loaded Caliper - Forester F/R $66.79 / $73.79 CTS-V F/R $212.79 / $138.79

Radiator - Forester $678.79 / CTS-V $119.24

Curious.. how does the CTS-V compare with a G8 GXP?
