$100 Audi

sorry for those of you that are bored with hearing of my cheap car schemes, but i have another. A guy up the road from me has a audi 5000s for $100. it has a broken rear light, crumpled drivers door and 300k (kilometers). the body is very good condition other than that, no rust, few scratches. he says it needs a new muffler, but i say loud is proud. it has leather seats with a few rips, nothing i cannot grassroots sow back together. its fwd and autotragic. 2.3 non turbo 5cyl.

in your opinion could i make money on this by fixing said problems and selling it on? any audi drivers comments would be appreciated? i am pretty serious on this one.

I'm no Audi driver, but for $100, it's worth a shot. You could probably get your money back even if you just scrap it afterwards. OTOH, you could sink thousands into it and not make any money at all.

Not much of a money maker. It's a $800 car running and legal.5000's are only good parts cars if they have turbos. The 2.3 might interest a 4000 or CGT owner but that's all they are likely to pay for a high mileage engine, so no real profit potential. Keep looking.

it has none of what makes an audi desirable.. no quattro, no turbo.. no stick shift... unless you need or know someone who needs a daily beater and can turn it around for a couple hundred more...run forest, run.....

My theory is that you can always find somebody to buy a $1,000 (or less) car. The trick is to get into the deals right and be familiar with the car so you know what you're getting into.

Personally (as in, if it were ME), I'd pass on this one. How much are you going to spend on this car to have a good running, high mileage, oddball car that will pass inspection and STILL have a mismatched door?

Car Purchase...$100
Taillight...ebay...maybe $20-$40
Muffler...local shop...probably on the order of $50 to $100
Door...junkyard...probably $100 to $200

Let's not forget title and sales tax.

It's your call. I'd plan on having $500 into it and it being worth the $800 that ddavidv stated. Is all the time and effort worth it? If it's your first car flip...it may very well be. Do it a couple of times and you'll probably agree that it's not a screaming deal.
