Bwaaaaah! Squirrel cam on board the Targa Miata, the first time the new engine was let off the leash.

Hee hee hee. Turn it up and enjoy 63 seconds of noise.

Thanks for the video! I'd been thinking about a V8 for my RX-7 but that convinced me not to do it.

Torque isn't for everyone.

In reply to Keith Tanner:

The engine sounds bored. IMO aural intensity is critical to the driving experience. Needs more cam and lots more compression. Maybe a geardrive, if they make those for these engines.

The problem is how to get a 13:1, 260-degree cam engine of such displacement to hook up in a car that small.

Bored is not how it feels in person. The cam gives a really sharp throttle response, much better than the stock LS3 stick. And it's pretty darn intense. This particular camera angle gives a mellower feel to the engine note than an in-car does because all you hear is intake, no exhaust - which cuts out all the overrun pops, for example, and the changes in timbre as you climb through the revs. It's like saying a symphony is boring when you can only hear the tympani.

Better? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frt1szPq6xE

But if you need a reason to avoid a V8, go for it.

True enough. The downside of video - it misses a lot of stuff. The exhaust gargle. The screaming of the gears in the trans and rearend. The horn-unstopping sound as you crack the throttle open and let all of the intake music out.
