I was gifted four Dmack Grippa rally tires. These appear to be from 2013 and in terms of tread wear have some life left. Thoughts on using these for SCCA RallyCross and/or how they'd compare to General Altimax snow tires? TIA

I'd use them

For liability reasons, I publicly vote no but you should follow your heart.

If the tread blocks are still sharp, they should return significantly more grip than snow tires.

Bring some full sized spares.

In my experience the window of conditions where rally tires are genuinely faster than snow tires is pretty small, all else equal. I'd expect super old rally tires, especially if they're worn like it sounds like they are, to be much worse. Now, if you have these but would be buying snow tires, it's probably worth giving these a try before spending money. But if you already have the snow tires on hand I wouldn't bother.

I have good snows. I don't want to change classes right now, so it would be next season before I tried the Dmacks. They are not terribly worn and still have some edge left. I will need to scare up some 15" wheels to try them out.

Only way to know for sure is to borrow a durometer and measure what is happening to the rubber compared to a new tire (obviously if they are showing cracking at the bottom of the grooves, you toss them).  I've seen tires that looked great, had no obvious perishing or aging yet were crap for driving on - little grip left.

They'll probably work fine, but be prepared to use a long air hose and hide behind something when you seat the beads- new DMacks were notorious for taking 160psi+, can't imagine aged ones are much better.

Yikes! I've had motorcycle tires take 100 psi and hid from that. I'm gonna need an air hose to the next county.

What's the surface like at your Rallycross location? I'd have no problem running those tires, but as mentioned above snow tires are usually just fine.

Solid dirt base with a layer of super fine "moon dust" on top.
