Odds are I'm about to get back some money that I was supposed to be spending on a cool car. I'm sad. What would make me feel better is finding another car to buy. I already have the RX7 for rallycross and other automotive shenanigans. I have the 911 for being awesome anda finicky German car. I have the 68 Ford wagon for old american iron that needs tons of work. I kind of want something that is modern enough to have good AC and a willingness to start every day without drama. Mostly I want it to be special enough, maybe odd enough, that when I open the door on the garage I can't help but smile and forget about the one that got away.
You didn't say what kind of car or how you'd use it. I'm going to take a little license on the willingness to start without drama requirement.
*Maseratis between 2000 and 2006.
* Lotus Esprit of the right vintage.
* Porsche 996.
* Bentley Turbo R.
* A very high mileage early G class.
* Z4, maybe a coupe.
This would be my choice, but I'm also a crazy person.

One of my bucket list cars. Looked at a few of them a couple of years ago and could find a decent one for south to $25k. Still on the want list.

I need to search all of these. I could haul the kids in the Bentley.

You are berkeleying insane. I like you.
I'd get another Porsche. $18K will buy a LOT of Boxster.
That kind of cash could get you a decent 986, plus a TPC Turbo kit, a 3.6 liter swap, or an LS swap from Renegade...

Coming when things are finalized. Right now I just want to feel better in a land of fantasy cars that I could write a check for and bring home and hug.

Want. Need to finish the grosh first.
Mazda RX-8 R3 is in that price range for a pristine one. Not many made either. Love mine.

Drove one once. Scared the dealer dude. Still one of the best RWD chassis I've ever encountered.

Well here is a hug.
I was looking for cars to hug, but I suppose this is nice too.
Find the first used fiesta st? You could build my insane twin efr'ed aluminator volvo 240 for about 18k

And then supercharge it for powa!
Bonus, if it seats six, budget doubles, maybe triples. Complication, no trucks.
I need more Italian cars to look at too.
Not the typical grm suggestion but I thought of a grand national

Fergus + wrecked GT500 + local Hot Rod shop of your choice.
Then again if you think waiting for a NEW car to get built is bad.....

Any chance a used one of these could be had for 18k?
